Sun

As part of my volunteer activities with the Little Thompson Observatory, I observed the Sun when it was active in 2003.

Below are some photos I took with my digital camera through the wide-angle eyepiece of LTO's 18" telescope (with a white light filter) at 9:20 MST on November 20. There were three distinct groups of sunspots at the time.

Note: the limb of the Sun does not correspond with the boundary of the parts of the photos that look like beach balls. This appearance is an artifact. Also, there is dirt visible, which has the sharpest contrast in the photos. The eyepiece edge is the sharp arced boundary.
